Our Vision

Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings, who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives.

Our Mission

We are all life-long learners, and it is in that spirit that Karuna Farmstead provides community, the arts, prevocation workshops and agricultural education to Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled (IDD) individuals aged eighteen years and older.  Everyone comes with different skill-sets. Some are earth whisperers and have an intuitive alchemy of the land and how to cultivate it best for gardening, while others might be called to farming, enjoying the responsibilities of animal husbandry. Yet, others may have gifts of handwork that include fiber art, painting, jewelry, soap or candle making, woodwork, or up-cycling furniture. Whatever the gifts of the individual, Karuna Farmstead seeks to cultivate it and give each person purpose.

Our Purpose

We believe all life has a purpose, be it a plant, animal or human.  A person's purpose is not defined by the limitations of one's body, the ability to speak or express themselves, age, or by the  development of one's mind. Purpose is designed by the spirit, and a symbiotic relationship with the natural world often germinates the seed that leads a person to the discovery of a higher self. We hope that anyone who visits our farmstead leaves feeling empowered as we feel that every individual contributes something useful and meaningful. We are a community of people with diverse abilities that are not defined by limitations but rather limitless possibilities.
